Please join us on a “beginners level” backcountry canoe/camping trip to Crab Lake in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. Led by a local guide who has 15 years of back country camping and canoeing experience. We visit one of the largest parks in Ontario, south of Algonquin Provincial Park. If you’re looking for some time to enjoy solitude, tranquility and dark night skies than you will not be disappointed!
We depart Toronto on Saturday morning at 8:00am. The drive to the park entrance on Wolf Lake is approximately 2.5 hours from the city. Once all of our gear is loaded into the canoes, we start our 1.5 hour canoe paddle to the one and only portage. A portage is where we carry our gear and canoes over a small piece of land that joins Wolf Lake to Crab Lake. This is a very easy portage and is suitable for beginners (it is only 100 metres or a 5 minute walk on flat ground.
Once on Crab Lake we will paddle for roughly 20-30 minutes to get to our reserved site were we will set up camp. Once we get settled you can relax around camp or go swimming. In the evening we will cook a group dinner together, and enjoy a nice night around the campfire, making some S’mores of course! On clear nights you can enjoy a sky full of stars.
Sunday morning we will cook a group breakfast and then enjoy the full day. You can join the guide to paddle over to the Blueberry Hill for a nice easy hike and great view of the area, explore the lake by canoe or even, if you feel daring enough, paddle over to jump off a small cliff into the lake. Will arrange a time to meet back at camp for a light lunch and then continue to enjoy any activities you wish. The evening we will cook a group dinner together and have another wonderful night around the campfire.
Monday morning after breakfast you will have some time to swim or relax before we start to pack up camp and begin our journey back to Toronto.
If you enjoy the outdoors and have always wanted to try backcountry camping this is the trip for you!
This is 3 days trip!
